Geshe Chekawa

Geshe Chekawa (1220 1295) studied thought transformation (the teachings concerning renunciation, bodhicitta and right view) with his guru, Sharawa, for 14 years. Through his meditations Geshe Chekawa developed the realisation of bodhicitta. At the time of his death, Geshe Chekawa lamented, “I have prayed to go to the place called Hell Without Respite for the sake of helping the beings who live there, but this is not going to happen: instead, I am having visions of the Pure Lands!”

Provenance

This tiny relic of Geshe Chekawa came from a family living in Lhasa, Tibet who salvaged the relic from a stupa that was destroyed during the invasion of Tibet by China.
